Caved on the idea of complete home and phone Internet detox. I can’t shop, check the weather, or bank. I slightly upgraded my kids and my phones and plans.
Let’s just say, I was less than prepared for the winter storm that rolled in. 😁 Our usual online homeschooling spots were closed due to the storm, so… I decided better phones and data was a necessity.
Now the focus will be on budgeting data, we don’t have unlimited data, yet. I want to see if we (who are heavily dependent on the Internet) can function online while limiting data consumption. There are big water related issues that the future holds, if we don’t work on data consumption. But oh well… I just want to see if it’s possible to limit data usage or if it’s a dumb idea for people to propose as a possible solution to the looming crisis. I have heard about counter arguments that AI has the capacity to curb the issue with more effective computing. That may be a ways off though… who knows? Not me!
So far my thoughts on day five of the Internet detox are… It’s nearly impossible to have no Internet access. It’s like living in a time warp, but no infrastructure still exists to support that lifestyle. Data consumption is needed to function. How much? No idea… at least not yet. I’m willing to bet it would just depend on the person or family. 😉
But… on to another thought. Being so unprepared for the snow storm made me feel true empathy for anyone homeless who has to rely on free public Wi-Fi or do not have Wi-Fi enabled devices.
