The poem, “Distorted Sapience” was written for and shared with a writing club in late January 2025. It could use a revision.
I came across an estuary that nearly slurped me into the sea.
I decided to stay and shine my light,
Warning of the dangers around.
Sedentary,
I stood firm on sinking ground–
a temporary lighthouse
Unable to remain
stagnant,
to warn of the dangers ahead–
For,
I only carried a lantern in the wind.
A dim glow,
in the vastness of a jet skyline.
The storm blew me,
tossed me,
flipped upside,
Slammed against a rocky hillside.
The only goals were,
keeping the flame lit inside,
And make it out alive.
Staying in one spot,
Where I wasn’t meant to be planted,
kicked my ass.
Now I wander the lands–
torch in hand,
Illuminating my own path.
And say
“hey, watch out for that pitfall”
To those traversing terrain that nearly slaughtered me.
The roots of humanity have never been stationary.
