“Rose of Stone” was a quick free-form poem. It was written as a type of prayer for a childhood friend and others in a similar situation. The prayer’s for those who’ve been trapped in domestic violence for far too long. For them to wake up and see the light outside, so they may ask for help and to heal. It was written in January 2025.
A rose yelled as she fell to the ground
A friend trapped, lost in darkness, doesn’t want to be found.
Questions swirl,
Stories twirl,
Toes curl,
Crickets chirp in response to lives consciously, bound.
Suspicions based on cryptic sounds left behind, lost girl?
A surging urge
To pound on every Angel of hell’s den
Use your dad’s name again
Rally up his troops, form groups
and locate his lost rose in city-wide swoops
Like God’s and the Devil’s patrolmen.
