This free-form poem, written in January 2025, might be close to its final version (or maybe not.) It explores the deep boredom and mental disconnect that often sweep into all varieties of relationships. That disconnection can lead to a sense of ontological homelessness, the unsettling feeling of loneliness and not belonging. These emotions tend to get buried under noise and distractions, but they never fully fade. Over time, the bonds between people and one’s own “self” grow weaker.
So much noise,
None of substance–
Conversational silence.
Oh, how lonely
The years have passed.
Only inert cognitions
Haphazardly reply,
Blank eyes
Staring back at me.
What can I say,
I’m lonely.
